The London Lions Women's squad take on Spanish side Gran Canaria at home for the first leg of their Eurocup Qualifier. They're the first British women's team to play against Europe since 2007/8. The Lions have constructed a very strong British side to play and represent this season. Having a British women's squad competing for a space in the EuroCup is a huge deal and if the Lions manage to win their qualifier it'll be a massive step forward for women's basketball here in the United Kingdom. We caught up with a few players from the star-studded British squad to see what their main focuses are for tonight 's historic matchup against Gran Canaria.
"I think honestly it’s to focus on us and what we do. Push in transition, rebound, stop them in transition and hit them first to set the precedent of how we want the game to go! But most importantly to have fun because this is history in the making no matter what happens!" - Kennedy Leonard
"Running the floor, playing as a unit, playing our game for a full 40" - Shanice Beckford-Norton
"No probs. Our main focuses are playing with tempo and being physical for the full 40 minutes. We need to contain their guards and locate shooters. But our focus is 100% on us and if we execute the game plan we’ll be fine" - Holly Winterburn
