A Love Letter To Basketball - Leon Bennett-Harris

Leon Bennett-Harris was a phenom in British basketball. Some called him one of the best young talents the country ever produced, once dubbed as "The future" averaging 39 PPG during one season as a junior and setting the summer basketball scene on fire at the legendary Midnight Madness tournament. To many people's dismay Leon later stepped away from the game of basketball after a professional debut in Germany. We approached him on writing a piece about his relationship with the game and Leon produced a very special and intimate letter to the game he fell in love with as a child.

A Love Letter To Basketball - Leon Bennett-Harris

Basketball, It’s been some very defining years for me since I left you in that apartment 5 years ago in Germany. So many things, people and situations have gotten in our way over the years, however my love for you does & always will remain.

We’ve flirted over the years & even had a few nights together but we never re-committed to each other and I don’t know if we ever will.

I left you because time was slipping from us. Other things warranted my love, passion, creativity & attention but you’re my first love. I take the skills, strength & creativity you’ve proven I possess & I use that awareness to fuel other skills of mine everyday so thank you.

I’m always talking about us, as i’m reminded about how good we looked together, on the daily basis. I smile should that day come we’re together again.

Love “LBH”.
